2012 Driving to Tucson

Wanderings
Day 8 and we're in Tucson.  Our grandson wondered where we've been since we left last Wed, Jan 25.  Here's a summary of our mega road trip.
Jan 25 - Marion,IL
Jan 26, Little Rock, AR visiting with my cousin Wanda,
Jan 27, Fulton, MS visiting with the relatives there,
Jan 28, Natchez, MS.  We traveled the lovely, historic Natchez Trace ( a two lane scenic view of what was once a footpath used by Indians and early pioneer settlers)

Jan 29, Katy. TX,
Jan 30, Fort Stockton, TX,

Jan 31, Willcox, AZ,
Feb1,  Vistoso Highlands, Oro Valley, AZ
We love to read about the history along the roads we travel.  The American Guide Series book, (listed now as rare books and pretty hard to find) written in 1937-1941 as part of the WPA Writers Project are our favorites.  Each state commissioned a topographical, geological and historical overview of the state.

Wonderings
Jim has been counting down to retirement for the last 6-8 years.  It has been a huge joke for us to to say, "only 1300 more days"  and then only 500 days and then all of a sudden, Jan 2012 came.  We had thought maybe we could try a road trip when we didn't have that limited vacation time deadline.  And so here we are Feb 1, 2012.  We incredibly thankful that we had an enjoyable and safe 2800 mile trip even if it took 8 days!!.
