Who stole the Cactus Flower? March 23, 2013

OUTRAGE!!!  I was out walking this morning at 8am and yesterdays beautiful flower AND the bud next to it were gone.
8am Mar23
Neatly removed - no damage

Since I am into back stories( what might have happened), here's my version of the crime involving two predators of the two legged kind as reported by Horacio, the wise old Horned Owl who observes all the human interactions here. .

Hortense: "Look, Morticia,  at this lovely cactus flower growing right here by the public sidewalk."
Mortica:  " It is spectacular!  I haven't seen any other cactus with that giant flower."
Hortense: " There is a second flower bud behind it, too."
Morticia: "Let's pick it and take it home and put it in a bowl of water."
Hortense: "We could take the second flower bud too and see if it will bloom."
Morticia: ( she of the two black thumbs)"I never have any luck with flowers, but let's try."

And so, yesterday's wonderful flower is probably shriveled and wilted in someone's garbage can.
( My apologies to any wild life who sees the flower as sustenance of some kind.  In Wisconsin, we could blame the deer who often munch on flowers.  However, there are no deer here.  The javelinas who do gnaw on everything including prickly pear plants are not tall enough to get to the flower.  Sooooo, I blame a humanoid.)
Sigh...... at least we got a good picture
