2017 Hummingbird Guild Sierra Vista Quilt Show

My friend Judy flies to Sierra Vista every year to help her sister's quilt quild set up and present this wonderful collection of quilts.  Enjoy!!
Every year there is a challenge topic for small wall hangings.  I've included just a few of my favorites from this challenge

 "Billowing Clouds Display"

"Meanwhile Back at the Ranch"
 "Dusk at Hereford"

 "Nellie Cashmann"

 "San Pedro River Display"

 "Buffalo Soldier Tribute"

"Denizens of the Southwest"

"Who Knows"  I love these owls!

"FernHill"  I love the embroidery.

"A Wonderful Life"  This mimics a bookshelf with family pictures.  It is a very sweet set of memories.
 "Four Season"

" Star Trek"

"Crazy Hexagonal Journey."   It won first place in one of the Hummingbird categories.  In addition to the complex triangular different colored fabric  that make up each hexagon, there are buttons and charms sew into each hexagon.  An incredible amount of creativity.

 "The Greatest Show on Earth"

"Runaway Quilt Block" Sorry this is so blurry.  It is a cute idea.  If some of this fabric could talk, I think they might say, "I'm tired of being all patched together. I'm out of here"

"Happy Halloween"  More of my favorite owls ( large and small applique)

"Fleur de la Mar" ( Flower of the sea)

"Vacation Quilt #1  Can you imagine doing this for your vacation remembrances.  This lady has done 2 more and #4 is in process.

"Colors of Mexico."

"Blanket Toss"

"Butterflies"

"Exercise in Pleats"

"Hearts and Flowers"  I love the individual hearts, each a different quilt pattern.

"Copper Arrows"

"Twisting into Autumn"

"Harley Sunset"  So, not only is the large picture of a intense Harley motorcycle, the machine stitching is in Harley logo.

"My Procrastination or Sometimes You Just Have to Stop"  The back story here is that this quilt top was begun in 1980 for her mother who loved purple. It was completed in 1990 but the hand quilting was finally finished in 2015.  he hand stitching is exquisite.

Christmas Quilts

"Kaleidoscope"  The different fabric patterns do indeed look like a kaleidoscope.

"Happy Birthday Darling Dotter Dorothy"  What a wonderful gift for the daughter who is a writer.

"Snowman" Winter quilt topics even in Arizona

"To Grandmother's House."  The embroidery is so beautiful.

"Are We There Yet?"

"Triangle Frenzy Swirl Centerpiece."

"Folded Centerpiece"

"Purrsnickitty Kattitude."  The creator of the quilt is allowed to spell the title anyway she wants!

"Flower Parade"

"I Ching and Cherry Blossoms"

"Helix Gone Wild"  This makes me dizzy.  I can't imagine actually making all those pieces fit together.

"Friends" A fabric hug, how special.

"Point of View" This black and white quilt is the same pattern as the purple one above.

"Folk Tails"

"Wedding Quilt"

"The Divorce."  Sad but true, a balance to the wedding quilt.

"Dutch Boy" vintage quilt. I have seen the "Little Dutch Girl" quilt pattern but never this one

"Diamond Sapphire"  Magnificent machine embroidery

"Angels Watch Over Us"
"Starburst"a vintage quilt from the 1970s.  I had never seen a bed ruffle added to a quilt, but it makes sense if you want the quilt to fit twin bed.

"Found Star Quilt" another vintage quilt top.  I had never seen this star pattern.

The above panels are pre printed, not as complicated or as creative as actual quilts, but still very colorful.

"Minions"  This quilter makes these quilts for children who have experienced some kind of trauma.

This "Wedding Quilt" is the winner of the quilt show.

Such a wonderful combination of geometric patterns, fabric prints and quilting.  It is a grand winner!!
